The President of the Republic of Ghana, Prof John Evans Atta Mills has called for the reorientation of tertiary education to provide the knowledge base that would foster economic development. This, he said requires improvement in the relevance of content of the curricula of tertiary education institutions and improvement in the technologies employed in the teaching and learning process.
This was contained in a speech read on his behalf by the Minister of Education, Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu at the 16th Congregation of the University of Education, Winneba during whicha total of 18, 531 students pursing various degrees and diplomas graduated on November 18, 2011 in Winneba.
Government, he said is committed to collaborating with stakeholders to finding solutions to challenges facing tertiary institutions such as funding, limited access, equity, quality, relevance, programme diversity and research.
According to him, government is investing so much in education with reference to the increase in Capitation Grants, provision of free school uniforms, exercise books and textbooks, as well as physical and academic infrastructural projects on various campuses.
